After DreadOut in 2019, there’s another movie based on a local horror game. The Pamali game is really popular in 2019. There are four stories in this game; One of the most famous stories is the story of the White Lady. Currently in the movie Pamali, the story of Lady Bach Thien has been adapted into a full-length film.
The film Pamali is produced by the producer StoryTales Studio and has been premiered since October 6 in all cinemas in the country.
Pamali movie reviews
About the ghost of a life-threatening butler
After living in the city for a long time, Jaka now returns to her hometown to sell her house to her parents. Jaka returns to his pregnant wife Rika. The two plan to clean the house left by Jaka’s parents, which has been uninhabited for a long time. Urgent need for money made this young couple determined to sell the inherited house.
However, the house where Jaka lives is not a friendly home to live in. There, a female ghost resides. He’s Nenden, Jaka’s brother, who had bad luck while he was alive. His spirit haunts the house and threatens the lives of Jaka and Rika.
Nenden is not a ghost that only fears him, he is always filled with anger and resentment towards Jaka and Rika. Furthermore, Rika who is pregnant often does prohibited activities or is commonly known as pamali.
So can Jaka and Rika survive the terror of Nenden? You can find out the ending of Pamali movie by watching it live in the cinema.
High intensity in the last half hour
The story line of this movie is quite slow at the beginning. From the first half to the second half, the film tries to focus on the story of each character. The focus is on Nenden and the story of his past until he eventually dies and becomes a wandering spirit. As for Jaka and Nenden’s parents, who had made Nenden miserable all his life.
Unfortunately, this makes the plot seem slow and the compelling impression fades away. The horror intensity of this film is felt only at the end of the film or about thirty minutes before the film ends. At that time, the terror of Nenden’s ghost continued to approach Jaka and Rika and make the couple’s life overshadowed by death.
Just like the game, which has many alternate endings, the Pamali movie is also said to have some endings captured during filming. Players in this movie don’t know which ending director Bobby Prasetyo uses to end the story of the film Pamali.
The Pamali are rarely excavated
I don’t know why this movie doesn’t seem to work at all. There are some jump scenes that leave the audience shocked and screaming, but this haunting impression is not maintained until the end. Also, the pamali term that is the main title in this film feels less explored.
The Pamali language in this movie is not even the starting point for the calamity that befalls Jaka and Rika. The plot feels like a house ghost is angry and wants revenge.
The correlation between broken pamali and the terror of ghosts is rather remote. In fact, the audience is only heard at the end of the film through a brief scene about the dangers of breaking the rules.
Logically, there are some pamali performed by Rika; one of them is cutting his nails at night. However, Nenden is basically described as a ghost that has terrorized this family. Connecting these two facts feels less smooth.
Art and sets are made as close to the game as possible
If you play the game Pamali, there are probably many aspects of this movie that remind you of the game. One of them is the house set. The film attempts to have it set in a similar setting to the game; starting from the swing in the yard, the house number upside down, to the picture of Nenden displayed at the back of the room.
The film also tries to take it as seriously as possible with really neat scenes. The filming was also done on purpose. Furthermore, many times the transition to describe the past and present is beautifully packaged. Of course, this is a guide for the audience to distinguish between stories in the past and stories in the present.
This movie stars the main characters Marthino Lio, Putri Ayudya and Taskya Namya. These three main stars have shown acting that brings the story to life. There’s nothing wrong with director Bobby Prasetyo casting three people as the backbone of Pamali’s story. Special credit also goes to Fajar Nugra, who is slowly maturing as an actor, his character Cecep managed to liven up the atmosphere.
