Starship Troopers 3 Movie Review

The first Starship Troopers film is considered a success in translating what is in the novel by Robert A. Heinlein. Stories with satire on government and patriotism can be well presented.

This advantage is no longer available in Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation. Both films are too focused on the action element. The interesting story element does not appear at all.

The defeat of the League of Heroes did not discourage the intention of continuing Starship’s Army. Four years after the second film appeared, Starship Troopers 3: Marauder was released.

Which begs the question, does it make the same mistakes as in the second movie? Or will it return to serving the game with a solid story? The answer is in the following movie synopsis and reviews .

Eleven years after invading Planet P, humanity’s war with Bugs continues. The citizens of the Federation are constantly developing weapons and tactics. In addition, they also continue to carry out propaganda work. This is to prevent them from running out of troops. Bugs don’t want to lose either. They continued to develop Arachnid variants.

The citizens of the Federation strive to create a good image through the media. This was done with more and more people protesting the war with Bugs.

There are also religious fanatics who oppose people joining the army. Many protesters and members of the group were arrested on charges of spreading narcotics.

Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien) has been appointed Colonel. He is stationed at the human base on the planet Roku San. This place is constantly being attacked by Bugs.

Several people were recruited to help with Rico’s work. They are General Dix Hauser, Captain Lola Troopers is an old friend of Rico and Sky Marshal Omar Anoke. They were recruited to restore morale to dwindling armies.

Roku San was occupied by humans to develop agriculture. Then there was a farmer who opposed the war. Hauser almost kills the farmer, but Rico stops him. Meanwhile, the base is attacked by Bugs. Rico leaves Hauser. Rico runs to fight Bugs.

Rico leads his members against Bugs. They were defeated by the scorpion-shaped Scorpion. Lola put Anoke on the plane. Then they returned to earth. Roku San is ruled by Bugs. Rico was blamed for failing to secure the base. He was also tried in a military court. Rico was sentenced to death by hanging.

Lola takes Anoke and the rest of the crew to Sanctuary, a secret human base. Along the way, they are attacked by Bugs. They were thrown near the planet OM-1.

The crew then removed the pods from the plane. They are Jingo Ryan, Bull Brittles, Dr. Wigg and Holly Little. Their decision turned out to be the wrong one. They saw a large number of errors. They were also killed by Bugs.

Anoke and the others managed to survive. Anoke and Lola have sent a message to earth. Hauser received the message. He then cuts the rope that will be used to execute Rico.

The two of them went to the Sanctuary. Hauser authorized Rico to run the Marauder Program. The Marauder program is a unit of seven state-of-the-art robots controlled by the military.

The Marauder Program robots must be directly connected to the pilot’s nervous system. The pilots had to undress to analyze their capabilities.

In the meantime, they discuss plans for when the war is over. Link Marion asks Rico if the war will end soon. Rico replies that the war will never end.

Enolo Phid was then appointed to take Hauser’s place. Phid takes Hauser to meet Brain Bug. Brain Bugs says that Anoke spends a lot of time with Bugs. That’s why he started getting inspired.

The bug that passed him on was the God Bug. This God Bug figure can communicate with Bugs through Bugs’ corpse and take the abilities of people he has killed. Can God Bugs be conquered?

Satire about anti-war and religious groups

Starship Troopers 3: The Marauder inserts an element of satire into its plot. This time, what was raised was a message against war and religious fanatics. Humans are described as fed up with the government’s decision to continue the war. Among those who protested, there was a rather religious fanatical group. They were also persecuted.

The early Starship Troopers delivered a patriotic satire. Marauder satirized fascism and war propaganda. Repressive actions against protesters and religious groups are shown in several scenes. Even in one scene, Hauser fights an anti-war protester.

This film by director Edward Neumeier also raises the issue of religion. It is said that some people began to take religious teachings seriously. The war made them want to pray.

There is a scene where Lola and Anoke’s spaceship is being attacked by Bugs. Holly prayed for her safety. However, Lola appeared confused by Holly’s actions.

This movie has the ability to attack religious people. There is a scene where Lola and Holly are cornered in a wide field. They saw a flash of light in the sky. Holly prayed and asked Lola to do the same.

As Holly prays, a cross-shaped plane is shown. Then, in front of Holly appeared a figure resembling God. That person turned out to be Rico.

Casper Van Dien is back

The Marauder presents a pretty solid depth to the main characters. Casper Van Dien, who became Rico on the first Starship Troopers team, returns to perform at the Marauder. He is still portrayed the same way as the previous movie. He was a loyal member of the military and did not object much to the tasks assigned to him.

Rico’s main character slot comes with three new characters. There’s Hauser, a hot-tempered man who values success on the battlefield. There’s also Lola, a geeky pilot who has an affair with Hauser. Another main character is Anoke. He betrayed humans after coming into contact with the God Bug doctrine. He considers the Bugs as his God.

Poor CGI usage

The Marauder is the new enemy of humanity. The God Bug is described as a large figure hiding underground. He has telepathic abilities with Bugs. Telepathic messages can be obtained using Bugs’ corpse. He can also take human intelligence. Even his tactical ability was taken away.

Cinematographically, this movie uses a lot of wide shot . This technique is quite effective for capturing the location of the story and the planet used as the site of the war. Unfortunately, the use of CGI in this sci-fi-themed movie is terrible. The use of effects in scenes with Bugs is clearly animated. Although the concept of this movie is live action .

Starship Troopers 3: The Marauder returns with satire to support the human plot against the Bugs. The 105-minute run doesn’t just present a dilemma for Bugs. There are also protests against wars and religious groups on earth. Out of the many Starship Troopers movies that have been released, which one is your favourite? Write in the comments column!
